Ladies of Etta

This year is totally different from last year in that the majority of Rusty's teammates have significant others! Which means friends for me! haha I am really grateful for the girls out here. They have quickly become some of my best friends because they are such great girls. We have been getting together (sometimes with the guys and sometimes without) about once a week.

Back in January, we threw a surprise baby shower for Tehane- who is married to Josh, the other American on the team. We had planned a "girls dinner night" while the guys were out of town, but little did she know, we had actually planned a baby shower to celebrate her and the baby girl who is on her way! Everyone brought food to share- which was all delicious. I was in charge of dessert and games. We played a game where the word "baby" was listed in different languages and you had to match it to the correct language- I thought it was fitting since our baby shower was multicultural :) We also played "Dad Knows Best", where she had to guess Josh's answers to questions like "How many diaper's will you change a day?". After the food, games, and presents, we all chatted for hours. It was such a fun night and we must have been good at keeping it a surprise because Tehane had no idea!

Our get-togethers are often centered around food. You can't have a good party without good food, right?! Josh and Tehane hosted a "soul food" night. They made macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, and vegetables; Veera and Juho brought corn bread; Essie brought blueberry pie, and Rusty and I brought cinnamon rolls. Homemade cinnamon rolls! It was my first time making them, so I was pretty proud of myself.

The team was out of town this past weekend, so we had a dinner and sauna night- my first Finnish sauna experience! It was nice and relaxing. The following night we went to Kentta, a sports bar/restaurant to watch the volleyball game. Oulu's hockey team had a game at the same time, so we were the only people in there watching the volleyball game, but the hockey fans were amused by our gasps and loud cheering. There was a DJ from a sports radio station there who asked Tehane and I to talk on the radio about our experience here in Finland...so now we're local celebs ;) lol

"The Ladies of Etta" have planned out [the food] of some upcoming parties...a Finnish dinner night, a French party with crepes, a Mexican fiesta...so I'm looking forward to our next festivities!
